The Habitat of Seals
Most seals live where there is plenty of salt water. They love to dive deeply in the water to find the best selection of fish. They prefer cold water where there are fewer predators. Most of them live in Antarctica, although some live in warm, sunny areas.
Seals spend 80% of their time in water and the other 20% on land. Seals enjoy land that has rocks and that is close to water. They are drawn to areas of low tide. It is a myth that they migrate. They only move if the water has been polluted where there is a food shortage.
Leopord Seals live in Sub-Antarctic water. They wait underwater near an ice shelf to get birds that are jumping into the water from the ice shelf. They also eat penguins. This habitat is good for them because they are such good hunters. They feed on warm-blooded prey that live in Antartica.
